Frequently Asked Questions
-
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle Japanese technique developed in the early 1900s to ease stress, create a feeling of relaxation and support your body's own natural healing process.
The word comes from 'Rei', meaning universal, and 'Ki', meaning life energy — so Reiki is, at its heart, a universal life energy.
When your ‘Ki’ runs low, or its flow is restricted, you may feel more depleted, and more vulnerable to illness.
In practice, Reiki is channelled energy work, given hands-on or hands-off. It meets you exactly where you are — burnt out, anxious, depleted, foggy, grieving, dimmed — and gently invites you to soften and return to flow.
-
Reiki is a gentle complementary practice that works alongside other therapies and conventional medical care, with no known contraindications.
Many people find it supports the immune system and brings a sense of ease during times of feeling lost or without direction. Beyond the physical, it encourages self-development and can soften the path back to purpose and clarity.
-
Reiki is believed to work on every level — spiritual, mental, emotional and physical. The high vibration of the Reiki energy is channelled through me and into you, allowing your own energetic system to get to work, clearing blocks in the flow and inviting a sense of balance, harmony and inner peace.
-
Yes. A Reiki treatment is non-diagnostic, non-interventional and non-manipulative, making it safe to receive alongside other care. It's often offered as a complementary therapy in hospitals, working gently alongside conventional medicine to support your body's own natural healing process.
-
Before we begin, we'll sit down together and talk through a brief lifestyle and medical history, so I understand what's brought you here and how best to support you. Everything you share stays strictly confidential.
If it's your first treatment, I'll walk you through how Reiki works and what to expect — though you'll likely have received this by email before your session too.
You'll then lie down on the treatment table, head on a pillow, a bolster under your knees to support your back, and a blanket to keep you warm. If lying down for a while isn't comfortable, we can do the treatment seated instead. Nothing needs to come off besides your shoes — Reiki energy moves easily through fabric, and even a plaster cast.
I'll work with my hands lightly on or just above your body's energy points, moving from head to feet. Towards the end, I'll ask you to turn onto your front (unless that's not comfortable for you) so I can complete the session down your back. A fully hands-off treatment works just as well, if that's what feels right for you.
When we're done, I'll let you know gently, and offer you a glass of water for when you're ready to rise.
-
Most people feel deeply relaxed, with a quiet sense of inner peace settling in during and after treatment. It's a time to let go, feel safe, and simply switch off.
Every session is different, shaped by what needs healing on that particular day. If there are blocks ready to release, this can bring emotions to the surface — your breathing may shift from short and shallow to long and slow.
Some people feel the energy moving through my hands as warmth, heat, cold, or a gentle tingling. Others see colours or images behind closed eyes. Thoughts may drift in — if they do, try to soften and let your body and mind do what they need to. You might simply fall asleep.
Whatever you feel is exactly right for you. And if you feel nothing at all, that doesn't lessen the healing taking place.
-
To help the calm settle in and make the most of your treatment, try to ease gently back into your day rather than rushing — though if that's not possible, it won't lessen what you've received. It helps to drink plenty of water after your treatment, and where you can, it's best to avoid alcohol that day or night.
-
Most people leave with renewed energy and a quiet sense of calm — feeling less reactive to daily stress and more able to sit with their emotions. Many find a fresh or renewed sense of direction, and start making small shifts in how they care for themselves while developing a deeper sense of self-awareness.
Occasionally, a small number of people go through what's called a healing reaction — feeling emotional, tired, or a little unsettled for a few hours afterward. This isn't cause for worry; it's simply a sign that something ready to release is moving through. Most people find that within a few hours, or by the next day, they're feeling lighter and clearer.
If you have any questions or want to talk through how you're feeling afterward, please do reach out — I'm always happy to help and re-assure you.
-
Reiki is a gentle practice, and any effects are generally experienced as positive — even a healing reaction is part of the clearing process, and passes. Most people notice a sense of inner peace, renewed energy, and a fresh zest for life. If anything comes up for you after a treatment, don’t hesitate to reach out.

“I have come to Manon for three Reiki sessions so far and every single one of them have been fantastic. We set an intention at the beginning which was met quite quickly — my expectations were met ten fold.
For anyone who’s never done Reiki before, it’s very very relaxing. In all three sessions, I’ve drifted in and out of very deep relaxed state — physically and mentally as well. The best way to describe it is mystical and powerful.”
